Initial Health and Safety Representative Training (NZQA Unit Standard 29315)

Key Topics: Worker engagement, risk management, and issuing provisional improvement notices (PINs).

Course Outline:

This online course equips HSRs with the skills to promote a safer and healthier place of work and also covers Unit Standard 29315 “Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a NZ workplace”. Successful completion of US 29315 (via the assessed quiz and fillable PIN) allows an HSR to exercise their powers to issue provisional improvement notices (PINs) and direct unsafe work to cease. Unit Standard is completed during the 2 day course.

Course Content:

This initial training course is for Health and Safety Representatives. The content covers Unit Standard 29315 ‘Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a NZ workplace’, and it also equips the Health and Safety Representative with the skills to promote a safer and healthier place of work.

Session 1: Overview of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

Session 2: Duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

Session 3: Worker Engagement, Participation and Representation

Session 4: The Role and Functions of WorkSafe NZ as they Apply to the Role of the Health and Safety Representative

Session 5: Risk Management

Session 6: PINS and Cease Work

Duration: 2 Days

Delivery: Trainer facilitated online Zoom/ Teams or Trainer facilitated face-to-face course.

Cost: $5400.00 plus GST (face to face) 12 participants. Additional $450.00 per participant maximum 16. (Travel costs apply)

Online Cost: $4800.00 plus GST (online) 12 participants. Additional $400.00 per participant maximum 16.
